About Us

Agronomy Australia, officially known as the Australian Society of Agronomy Inc., serves as the peak professional body for agricultural scientists and agronomists across Australia and New Zealand.

The primary mission of Agronomy Australia is to convene and manage the Australian Agronomy Conference, a biennial event that brings together experts to discuss the latest research, innovations, and challenges in agronomy.

Through its dedication to fostering a collaborative and informed agronomic community, Agronomy Australia continues to play a vital role in shaping the future of agriculture in the region.

Agronomy Australia was established in 1980, following several years of discussions among a small group of passionate agronomists. The idea for a national society was first raised in the mid-1970s at Grassland and Cereal Agronomy Conferences. Key figures - Mr Dennis de Kantzow and Dr Bruce Sutton from the University of Sydney, and Dr Jim Davidson from CSIRO - drove the initiative. Two key meetings in 1978 and 1979, hosted by Professor Mike Norman at Sydney University, brought together representatives from across Australia and laid the foundation for the Society's formation.
