A Letter From The President

Welcome to the Australian Society of Agronomy.
It is an honour to serve as President and to help guide this Society into its next chapter - one defined by collaboration, bold thinking, and a deep respect for the agronomic legacy that precedes us. I acknowledge with gratitude the outstanding leadership of past presidents and committees, whose commitment has shaped Agronomy Australia into the premier professional body for agronomists and agricultural scientists across Australia and New Zealand. Today, we proudly represent more than 500 members spanning research, education, consulting, government, and the private sector.
Our strength lies in the collective pursuit of innovation - built on decades of research, field expertise, and dedication to advancing sustainable and productive agricultural systems. As President, my focus is to amplify that foundation by fostering an environment where early-career professionals, seasoned practitioners, and researchers alike can challenge convention and co-create solutions for tomorrow’s agricultural challenges.
We are living in a time where agronomy matters more than ever- where climate, sustainability, technology, and food security intersect. The Society is committed to being at the forefront of that conversation.
I invite you to engage with us: contribute your voice, connect with peers, and shape the direction of our profession. Together, we can continue to drive excellence, relevance, and impact across our sector.
I look forward to meeting many of you during my term, especially as we gather for a historic milestone—the 22nd Australian Agronomy Conference, to be held for the very first time in Darwin, Northern Territory. This event will not only highlight the region’s unique agricultural potential but also celebrate the diversity, resilience, and innovation that define our community.
Let’s make it one to remember.
Warm regards,
Muhammad Sohail Mazhar
