Ian Baker receives 2026 Neil Fettell Award
Agronomy Australia has awarded Ian Baker the 2026 Neil Fettell Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to agriculture and his enduring commitment to developing the next generation of agronomists.
The award was presented by Dr Felicity Harris at the 22nd Australian Agronomy Conference in Darwin, recognising a career defined by knowledge sharing, professional development, mentoring and connecting research with farmers and industry.
Ian Baker has enjoyed a long and diverse career spanning research, extension, industry development, agribusiness and consulting in Australia and internationally. His work has covered tropical and perennial crops, grains and emerging agricultural opportunities, combining technical expertise with practical farming, business and industry experience.
A defining feature of Ian’s career has been his commitment to building the capability of others. Through industry training, technology transfer, research and development, mentoring and consulting, he has supported farmers, industry organisations, researchers and agricultural professionals across Australia and internationally.
The Neil Fettell Award recognises individuals who demonstrate a lifelong commitment to agriculture and the development of others. Named in honour of the respected agronomist Neil Fettell, the award celebrates not only professional excellence but the personal contribution individuals make to advancing agronomy and supporting future generations.
